MEDIA Programme

The MEDIA Programme (formally MEDIA 2007) is a European Union (EU) programme designed to support for the European audiovisual sector.[1] It is currently (as of 2009) in its fourth generation, with 1991‒1995 and 1996‒2000, 2001‒2006 (MEDIA Plus) being the previous three.

The objectives of the programme are:

MEDIA 2007 concentrates on the pre- and postproduction phases of filmmaking.[2] It does not fund the production itself. Its five action lines are:

Budget

The division of the total budget across these five action lines shows that the distribution of European works is a clear priority. The goal is to increase their circulation outside their originating country and worldwide. The programme has a budget of €755 million for the 2007‒2013 period.[3]

The next MEDIA programme (2014-2010) is supposed to have a budget of about €900 million. [4]
